Lesson Plan 5 Prefixes and Suffixes

WHAT?

What happened? What went well? What was an area of weakness?

Which objectives were met?  What is the evidence? Which students did not meet objectives?  Which students exceeded objectives?  Why?
Today we began our lesson with our introductions and reviewing our group rules. Today we introduced prefixes and suffixes and we review our agenda as a whole group. From here Miss. Houghton introduced our anchor chart on prefixes and suffixes on root words. The students really caught on quickly Miss. Houghton had examples and root words to read aloud as a group the students realized the prefixes and suffixes and were able to identify them. From here we introduced and activity on prefixes and suffixes using clothes pins and popsicle sticks. The popsicle sticks had the root words and the clothes pins had the prefixes and suffixes there for the students created words using these. The students were able to create words and identify the meaning of the prefixes and the suffixes of the words. This proved that the student met the objectives they both used the anchor chart to help guide them in the meanings of the prefixes and suffixes. Then we moved on to our vocab word wall going over our vocabulary words which were rebellious, mischievous, regret, contrary, and nurture.  Before reading we reviewed our 4 Ps which the students predicted the story in detail. I then read the story The Bad Seed by Jory John through out the story I stopped and the students find words that had prefixes and suffixes attached. Once we finished reading the students completed a chart where they made their own words and wrote them in on the popsicle sticks and clothes pins then we had the students each read the their words. We then wrapped up our activity reviewing prefixes and suffixes. From there we told the students our next lesson will be our last one on summarizing. The activity using the clothes pins and popsicle sticks went really well and the students appeared to enjoy them.

SO WHAT?

What was learned from this experience? Evidence of teacher candidate learning


The students enjoyed the interactive activity having the ability to put the clothes pin and popsicle sticks together using materials instead of just anchor charts and graphic organizers to work on. They also really enjoyed the story. For the future the last lesson we will try to use interactive materials because the students enjoyed them so much.

How will this experience influence how I plan/teach/assess in the future?
For the future knowing that our students enjoyed the interactive materials a lot will help me for future lessons as well as the big anchor charts help students and making them so big helps students see a lot better.
