Lesson Plan 6 Paragraph Shrinking

 Reflection on Lesson

WHAT?

What happened? What went well? What was an area of weakness?

Which objectives were met?  What is the evidence? Which students did not meet objectives?  Which students exceeded objectives?  Why?

We began our lesson by thanking our students for having us teach them they were very sad to see that this was our last day with them. We started the lesson by asking students introduction questions if they celebrate Thanksgiving and what their favorite food is to eat for it. Then we reviewed our classroom rules. From there we introduced summarizing our hamburger anchor chart explaining the main idea, supporting details, and our conclusion. The we reviewed our 4Ps preview, purpose, prior knowledge, and predict. We had the students look at the cover of the story and make a prediction of the story Let Liberty Rise!: How America’s Schoolchildren Helped Save the Statue of Liberty by Chana Stiefel. We then went over our vocabulary words civic, campaign, patriotic, symbolic and heritage. Then Miss. Sterpis read the story Let Liberty Rise!: How America’s Schoolchildren Helped Save the Statue of Liberty by Chana Stiefel. As we read we had student redact what could happen next in the story, When we finished we the students complete a hamburger graphic organizer writing in main idea, 3 key details, and a conclusion. Our next graphic organize we completed paragraph shrinking together writing in a headline for the story. We completed "I do, we do, you" this helped students grasp what was being asked of them. They both met the objectives filling in the graphic organizer correctly with 90% ability. Then the students shared out there paragraphs and we played Roll and Retell. Lastly we concluded by thanking the students for having us these past 6 weeks and gave them each a card.

SO WHAT?

What was learned from this experience? Evidence of teacher candidate learning

We learned that students may need extra help and resources one of our had a visual impairment making it harder for her to see there for the bigger the anchor chart the better it was for her.

How will this experience influence my professional identity? 

How will this experience influence how I plan/teach/assess in the future?

In the future I'll continue to use big anchor charts and resources that seem to help students who need more help. I will always show examples to work as well seeing they usually have a better understanding of what's being asked when you. I'll continue to make the students cards thanking them for letting us come and teach them.

Each student created a timeline of the 11 events we had learned. The students were able to understand the events of the timeline in order by date. In their journals they were asked to recall one historical event and date it as well as explain its importance. They were each able todo so with out any difficulties.
